Já me tinha esquecido das cantigas de amigo do nosso rei trovador. Mas algures no baú da memória, lá me fui lembrar deste passarinho que, à semelhança do papagaio amarelo de bico doirado, traz sempre notícias dos namorados e namoradas de todos os apaixonados.

I'd forgotten about the medieval 'cantigas de amigo' of our king troubadour. But somewhere in the trunk of memory, I remembered about this bird which, like the yellowparrot with a golden beak, always brings news of boyfriends and girlfriends to all the 'in love' people.

Esta série de ilustrações não foram nada fáceis de se imaginar. Foi preciso puxar muito pela memória para me lembrar das muitas horas em que ouvia os meus avós a falarem do ‘antigamente’. Por isso, peço desculpa se, no meio de tanta palavra antiga, misturei cores ou feitios, ou se troquei algumas rendas por uns emaranhado de fios. Aos herois que continuam a manter viva a tradição do artesanato com a ponta dos dedos da mão, deixo aqui um agradecimento do fundo do coração.

This collection of illustrations were not easy to imagine. It took a hard work to remember all what I heard my grandparents tell about the 'old days'. So forgive me if, in the middle of these old stories, I mixed colors and shapes, or if I mixed some traceries and tangle of wires. To the heroes who continue to keep alive the tradition of craftsmanship with the tip of their fingers, here are my thank from the deep of my heart.

Esta ilustração foi feita, inicialmente, para um concurso sobre os martelinhos de S. João, mas devido a inúmeras faltas cometidas pela entidade reguladora, este martelinho acabou por ser apenas uma ilustração que logo à noite se irá transformar num martelo a sério. Muito obrigado aos 65 votos e bom S. João...

Como está nos top 150, teve o direito de estar exposto no Porto. Mas tenho a certeza que em vez de estar fechado numa sala com 150 martelos, o meu martelo prefere percorrer as ruas do Porto juntamente com milhares de martelos, comer sardinhas com broa, lançar balões e ver o fogo junto ao Douro...

This illustration was done for a contest about the hammers of S. João popular festival, but due to numerous errors committed by the jury, this hammer turned out to be just an illustration that tonight it will turn into a real hammer . Thank you for the 65 votes and have a nice S. João...
Because it is in the top 150, this hammer is being exposed in Oporto. But I am sure that instead of being locked in a room with 150 hammers, my hammer prefers to wonder around the streets of Oporto along with thousands of hammers, eat sardines with bread, launching balloons and see the fireworks by the Douro ...

Era uma vez dois lobitos traquinas que andavam à caça de um piriquito. Viram-no pousar numa caixa de cartão e, pé ante pé, aproximaram-se dele cheios de cautela até que... Pumba, saltaram os dois para dentro da caixa enquanto o piriquito se ia afastando com o seu bater de asas. Dentro da caixa e sem se poderem mexer, foram sentindo caixas e caixas a amontoarem-se à sua volta. Passadas umas horas do outro lado da cidade, o Sr. Coelhito foi verificar a sua caixa de correio e, qual foi a sua surpresa quando viu os dois lobitos fora da caixa a uivar de tristeza pela sua desventura...

Não foi fácil, mas o mundo já nos coube na palma da mão. Primeiro houve o sonho, do tamanho de uma semente que foi crescendo no mar até se tornar em árvore do tamanho do mundo. Depois houve a arte e o engenho para compreender o mundo e moldá-lo em forma de esfera com tronco e raízes fortes que aguentassem as mais fortes ondas e marés. Por fim, bastou apenas levantar as âncoras e partir até onde os sonhos nos quiserem levar.

It was not easy, but the world was fitting in the palm of our hand once before. First there was the dream, with the size of a seed that grew in the sea until it become the size of the world. Then there was the art and strenght to understand the world and shape it into a sphere with a trunk and strong roots that could stand the strongest waves and tides. Finally, the anchors were raised up and we left until where the dreams want to take us.

Era uma vez uma coelho muito traquinas que andava sempre à procura de cenouras e de bombons de chocolate. Ficava sempre empolgado quando via chocolates espalhados pelo chão e nem pensava que toda aquela doçaria podia ser uma armadilha de algum caçador mais esfomeado. Chocolate atrás de chocolate, lá caiu na armadilha e ficou preso num caixote de cartão. Mas, qual foi a sua sorte quando o caçador se esqueceu de fechar o fundo do caixote com fita-cola...

Monstro das tintas

Não seria o mesmo se não pintasse com o meu amigo Monstro das Tintas. É ele que me inspira, ajuda, alegra, gasta as tintas e, ocasionalmente, me come um ou outro chocolate que tento, inutilmente, esconder.


It wouldn't be the same if I didnt paint with my friend Ink Monster. He is the one that inspires me, helps me, cheers me, uses my inks and, occasionally eats one or two chocolate of mine, that I, unsuccessfully, try to hide.

Inventar o amor não é coisa fácil. Será talvez mesmo impossível. O amor não se inventa, ele existe nos nossos corações orgânicos e todo o amor que seja inventado tem uma data de validade...


Inventing love is not an easy thing. Probably it's impossible. Love can not be invented, it exists in our organic hearts and all the love that is invented has, for sure, an expiration date ...

Portugal não é apenas um conjunto de cidades que navegam na água ou no céu. Mais do que isso, é a paz e a calma de um monte ou de um vale decorados com um sobreiro aqui e acolá, uma vinha ou um oceano a desenhar o horizonte. Não é difícil ver as paisagens lá de casa assim. Basta desviar o olhar de uma ou outra povoação e o horizonte aparece-nos num piscar de olhos. Quando comprar uma casa quero vista para o mar e assim saberei que pelo menos aquela paisagem ninguém ma poderá tirar.

Portugal is not just a group of cities that sail in the water or in the sky. More than that, they are the peace and quietness of a hill or a valley, decorated with an oak here and there, a vineyard or an ocean drawing the horizon. it's not hard to see the homeland landscapes like this. Just look away from a town and this horizing appears to us in a heratbeat. When i buy a house, I want one with view to the ocean and then I'll know that, at leats, that landscape cannot be taken from me.

O concurso "Leitores de todos os tamanhos" foi uma iniciativa lançada pela Bertrand Livreiros, que tinha como objectivo criar a nova mascote do grupo editorial criado em 1732. Infelizmente, o Bernardo foi uma das 275 personagens que não ganharam o primeiro lugar, mas tem um lugar muito especial neste blog.

The contest "Readers of all sizes" was initiated by Bertrand Booksellers, which had the aim of creating the new mascot of the publishing group, established in 1732. Unfortunately, Bernard was one of the 275 characters that didn't win the first place, but has a very special place in this blog.
