Portugal (agora a cores)

 Portugal I II e III
Pen, watercolour on paper 150 gr
35 X 50 cm
2011-13

One of these drawings must have been the first to be done when I arrived in Istanbul. Earlier I was still afraid to use the inks and now I look again, maybe even have a little bit :). But one thing is certain, today I take the chance more than yesterday and that tomorrow will surely risk further. And the result could not be better, more color, more lines, more trials and errors but also more victories. And that's how it must be.

This is my wall back home. It has some frames that were suppoosed to be filled with my illustrations... But only one or two illustrations could fit in some frames very hardly and now I have many empty frames, waiting for the illustrations to fill them... Next time I will buy the frames first :)

Avô Mel

Avô Mel
acrylic on paper 300 gr
21 X 30 cm
2012

This story talks about a grandfather who was sweet as honey. It is true that had bees and produced honey at home, but this was notthe only thing that made him sweeter. its sweetness came from his personality, his way of talking to the animals, his dedication taking care of the fruit trees and his patience with people, even the most anoying ones:). It was my first attempt to make a kind of book, but at the end, the intention was to perpetuate this character who always made us smile. and now, I'll have a tea with honey (yes, honey of my grandfather) ...

O Justiceiro (1357-1367)
watercolour on paper 300 gr

2013

D. João II, the Perfect Prince, continuing the work of his great-uncle Infante D. Henrique, launched paper boats out to sea, after signing the Treaty of Tordesillas, because he knew that dreams exist beyond the boundaries ...
D. Manuel I came little later and saw John's dreams become reality. With the help of some friends who were discovering the sea, he saw the world in the palm of your hand ...
And at the end of this story we have the D. Pedro I, the Portuguese Romeo, who loved a girl called Inês. But as we are not here to tell sad stories, I will just say taht he loved Ines beyond death...
And next time there is more stories...

O da Boa Memória (1385-1433)
watercolour on paper 300 gr
10 X 21,5 cm
2013

This series of illustrations gathers my first super heroes. 18 illustrations are thought, but of course there will be more adventures to tell.
Starting by D. Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal, a short man but with a hard beard that went all the way down in Portugal in almost one stroke to regain the Christian lands!
Then we have D. Diniz, who did all he wanted, who liked trovas, literature and science, but also liked to plant trees in a pine forest in Leiria built by other kings.
And finally we have D. John I, the first of Avis dynasty, friend Nuno Alvares Pereira and father of  the illustrious generation, conquered Ceuta, initiating the Portuguese maritime expansion.
The history of Portugal, by land or sea, has here a small space to honor the heroes of ancient times. May the kings and explorers today were as brave as well...

Finalmente a preencher a parede vazia :)

 Noite de S. João
Water colour on paper 300 gr
12 X 17 cm
2013

A white wall and a huge miss of an old fashioned S. João festival. I miss hammering all around me, boys and girls, young and old (but especially the bald :P), eating sardines on the street, take leeks in my face, listen to music, watch the fireworks and the dances, feel Porto partying, and launch paper balloons in the night of S. João... I leave you here a tiny and very humble illustration, but there's also S. João in the next year...

And after the bachelorette party, here it is the cards where the guest will write their best wishs to the couple. Of course, everybody wrote behing the card, instead of writting in the space made on purpose in the illustration (maybe not to ruin it :D)...

Pedaço de terra em parede de casa

 Portugal
Acrylic on wall
85 X 140 cm
2013

This time was for real. This is the second wall that I paint but this time i was not afraid to use the inks and as much wall I could paint. And the result is here. Aos soldados da paz

Aos soldados da paz
cartão canelado 1mm
8 X 16 cm
2013

At this moment I am full of work, but I took 5 minutes of my time to pick up a piece of cardboard, a pen and remember all peacekeepers who lost their lives to protect the lives of others... It is very, very little I know, but you are all in our mind. This year, the number exceeded the limits and this drawing is only one tree in a forest of people who thank you for everything you have done...

E hoje vou começar a pintar a parede :D

Rascunho #2
Pencilon paper 200 gr
17,5 X 12,5 cm
2013

What do you think of this little sketch that I'll make in the wall of our home? This will be my first illustration on a wall with reasonable dimensions. I know it will be fine but I always have that fear because after all, a wall is not a paper. Anyway, it will be a pity not to be able to take the illustration away with me...

Descobre as 3 diferenças...

The are really three small differences. Can you find them? Want a clue? The toblerone seems a bit bigger in the second picture :P

Presto :)

Homes at home

Because living far from home doesn't mean that you can't carry your home with you' I show here a little of Portugal in turkish lands. This is a village from the north, full of light and colour, like a village should be. In another wall of this house, another village will born. The name, we will see it later....

one week to go...

 Casamento countdown
watercolour on paper 300 gr
10 X 15 cm
2013

The countdown for the wedding started and I had to wait almost half year to be able to publish this image, repited in the invitations and in other details for the wedding that I still don't imagine them. And this is the reason why I came so few times to the blog... You know, who would say, a wedding takes so much time to prepare :)... So excuse me...
